Now that children are back to school , are you confused about healthy school snacks? Date ball/Protein ball comes to your rescue.
This is a 5 minute health food made of dates and nuts/seeds. How about you divide the chore and get the children to roll into balls? Involving children in cooking is the easiest way to get fussy bosses to eat healthy.
This is an amazing snack for post workout, after school, dance class,soccer or netball class etc as this will refuel quickly and is all natural, healthy and easy to make.
Recipe :
Ingredients
- 1 cup dates
- 1 cup of mixed raw and unsalted nuts ( you can also add seeds such as sunflower, pumpkin, chia, flax )
- 1/2 teaspoon of cardamom powder
Optional ingredients
- A pinch of ginger powder ( if they tend to not tolerate nuts well)
- 1 or 2 teaspoons of cacao powder
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/2 a cup of Dessicated coconut
Method
- Grind the mixed nuts to a slightly coarse texture in a food processor or an Indian mixer and keep them aside.
- If you are adding the optional ingredients, add along with this.
- Grind the dates till they are of pasty texture.
- Add the ground nuts to the date mixture and blend till they come together.
- Roll the mixture into balls
- For a more fancy look, roll the balls onto a plate of dessicated coconut.
Notes:
Nuts can be of single type or mixed according to your preference.
You can substitute nuts with seeds such as sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, chia or flax seeds for nut allergies.
Feel free to add raisins or figs along with dates.
